​Grok Comics Expands the Remnant Universe with Anthology Series
Grok Comics continues to expand its acclaimed Remnant Universe with the release of the anthology series Parables of the Remnant. This second installment in the core trilogy delves into the backstories of its diverse characters while exploring standalone adventures and new narrative directions. With its compelling mix of genres, Parables of the Remnant has become a cornerstone of the Grok Comics catalog.
A Closer Look at the Series
The series kicked off with Parables #1, introducing Eli "Royalty" Caldwell, the star of the Remnant Universe. Caldwell, a successful mixed martial artist, finds his life upended by family tragedy. Forced to reexamine his priorities, he emerges as a hero in a story brought to life by writer Bill Raupp and artists Rully Akbar, Luis Rivera, and Federico Sioc. The issue also features the debut of the comedic yet intimidating duo, The Silent Knights.
Following the strong start, Parables #2 shifted focus to Grok, the enigmatic leader of the Remnant. Known for motivating and empowering his team, Grok’s hidden past is unveiled in a tale that promises to reshape the group’s future. Written by Raupp with art by Carlos Rodrigo, the issue also explores the origin of Jezebel, a single mother who evolves into one of the universe’s most wicked villains.
The anthology’s third issue, Parables #3, marked a format change, offering a single story centered on the new villain, YOKE. The character’s journey follows Sara, a disillusioned Presbyterian, as she explores alternative beliefs and transforms into the sinister YOKE.
Standout Stories and Characters
The series’ diverse storytelling is further demonstrated in subsequent issues. Parables #4 highlights the husband-and-wife duo Flameshot and Pink Spade as they face off against the villainous Robotron AI. Parables #5 focuses on Unit Leader South Hawk, a decorated soldier and lawyer who grapples with a broken legal system while facing a mysterious foe.
In Parables #6, the spotlight shifts to Bzzt, a bumblebee hero investigating a farmer extortion plot. This lighthearted yet action-packed story ties into the larger Blue Flame Saga.
The flip-book format returns in Parables #8, introducing two new characters. Side A features Rapture, whose origin story is penned by Evan David, while Side B introduces ZZAP, a new hero brought to life by scriptwriter Matthew Jasso and artist Gilbert Monsanto.
The latest issue, Parables #9, showcases Raytheon, an ESP and CEO whose attempt at taking a day off is interrupted by the villain Weapon Eyez. The issue also includes a story about Warriora, a warrior who believes she is divine. Writers Bill Raupp and Evan David collaborate with a team of talented artists, including Carlos Rodrigo, Periya Pillai, JB Reis, and Alex Pincovae, to bring these characters to life.
Looking Ahead
Grok Comics shows no signs of slowing down. Three additional issues of Parables of the Remnant are currently in production, promising to introduce more captivating characters such as The Israel Invaders, Bug, and Tek9.
